It already has. We are looking to move back to US from Spain. First, were looking to return to California but the long-term drought and fires has changed that. My husband has COPD and the climate in the desert southwest has turned us away. Looking now to Tampa Bay in Florida. There, the flooding is a concern. Not so much the hurricanes. As a Californios, don’t know about living in a humid climate.
I moved 2.5 years ago from Tampa Bay to Phoenix. For us, perhaps if we weren’t living 30 minutes away from Tampa or 50 minutes from St Pete, it may have been different. Nevertheless we had to evacuate for hurricane Irma. It took us 14 hours to get out of Florida, with little choice for places that had gas or power. It was scary. The fact that we had to board up all our windows in preparation wasn’t a thing we wanted to do as we get older. The humidity, the bugs, the wet weather and lack of gay life where we were was a deciding factor. We moved 4 years later, now in Phoenix,AZ. Summers are hot as hell, but the rest of the year is fine. We are 2 hours to Flagstaff, which can be 20-30 degrees cooler. We live in the midtown area, where we can walk to restaurants, and everything else is close by. So for us, it was a good move. No place is perfect, you just have to see what’s most important for you and your lifestyle.
