I have to agree with you Mark, there is a need! We used to think of the Castro District in SF has a haven for gays and lesbians (the whole LGBTQ community), and back in the days, it was absolutely necessary for their safety, I understand now that the Castro District is more of a mix of straight and LGBTQ, perhaps because WE feel more comfortable being among the mainstream population, it is more “accepted” by the whole population. But let’s not confuse all that progress! There is still discrimination and an increasing danger coming from the extreme right where being a member of the LGBTQ is not fully accepted and being an elderly LGBTQ member is like being a target for some. I do believe there’s a need for a safe haven for all of us, where we don’t need to hide!
